The nation of Israel needs to sign the agreement promising not to use biological or chemical weapons on other countries. The United States, along with numerous other countries, signed an agreement that promises not to use chemical and biological weapons on each other. Nearly every country that is developing chemical and biological weapons has signed this agreement, but there is one country that is noticeably missing: Israel. Israel is an ally of the United States, but it is an issue that Israel has not signed the agreement. It is known that Israel possesses nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. There is a limited amount of information on the specific types and numbers of Israel’s weapons (Lendman par. 7). While it is comforting that Israel is an ally of the United States, Israel’s secrecy still causes many countries to be suspicious. Israel has a history of impulsively creating issues for countries it is at peace with (“The Middle East Peace Process” par. 3). This unpredictability sparks fear in the minds of Americans. It would be much less concerning if Israel would simply sign the agreement. Furthermore, the limited amount of information, and Israel’s serious discretion about their weapons program, has caused other countries to gain suspicion about the events transpiring within the country. The Central Intelligence Agency discovered the evidence proving that Israel was developing weapons years ago, but there is nearly nothing that can be done because Israel did not sign the agreement (Lendman par. 25). It is vital for Israel to sign the agreement that ensures Israel will not use chemical or biological weapons. However, some believe that because Israel is an ally of the United States, Israel should be trusted to not use chemical or biological weapons. The United States does not want to seem suspicious of Israel by insisting that they sign the treaty. Israel is an important ally to the United States and should not be treated like an enemy. The United States does not want to burn their bridge with Israel by appearing to act suspicious of Israel.
